ATEME announced today that 2 SAT Europe bv, a provider of professional
satellite connections around the world, has chosen ATEME, a leader in
H.264 video compression products, to upgrade its digital satellite news
gathering (DSNG) fleet. The upgraded trucks are currently booked to
cover multiple high profile events including the MotoGP Grand Prix, a
series of 18 motorcycle races across 14 countries taking place from
April to November this year.
The Kyrion codecs will enable 2 SAT trucks to fulfil all satellite
transmission requirements from MPEG-2 SD to MPEG-4 HD, 4:2:0 and 4:2:2,
8-bit and 10-bit, at any bitrate, all with the utmost picture quality
and full redundancy.
Bas Giskes, 2 SAT’s chief executive, commented: “Our trucks are
travelling across the whole of Europe for all kinds of sports and live
events, so we have to select technology that is very broadly accepted.
Following the contract award for the Moto GP coverage, we decided to
modernize our equipment and we were looking for a solution offering
flexibility in terms of codecs, compatibility with the receivers used by
our clients, and that our operators could use easily. We had a positive
experience during early trials of the Kyrion contribution pair from
ATEME. So we moved ahead and… it’s all good – the pictures look great
and our operators love the gear.”
