L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that it has been selected
as one of 15 recipients of the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer
Support Freedom Award. This honor, which is presented by the U.S.
Department of Defense (DoD), Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve
(ESGR), recognizes the company’s exceptional support of U.S. National
Guard and Reserve employees and their families, and its steadfast
dedication to national defense.
“We are extremely proud to be recipients of the nation’s highest honor
for supporting Guard and Reserve employees,” said Michael T. Strianese,
chairman, president and chief executive officer of L-3. “We have a deep
respect for the mission that these dedicated men and women choose to
carry out, and for the sacrifices that their families back home make
every day in the name of freedom and national pride. As an aerospace and
defense contractor, many of our employees have the unique opportunity to
serve our nation twice, both as active duty members of the Reserve and
Guard, and as part of an organization whose expertise helps equip the
strongest force in the world. It is a privilege and an honor for us to
support our uniformed men and women at home and abroad.”
L-3 was selected from among 3,236 nominees by a board comprising senior
U.S. DoD officials, business leaders and prior awardees. The award
acknowledges the company’s dedication to Reservists and Guard members
through a breadth of programs, from financial hardship support and
charitable work for the families of deployed employees, to career
development and employment counseling for transitioning active duty
members, as well as seminars that focus on veterans’ issues.
