This tip will allow you to access a Windows 98 or Windows Me computer quicker from a Windows XP computer.
You may have noticed if you have a network with different versions of Windows installed on it that access to a Windows 98 or Me machine is sometimes very slow from a Windows XP machine. Windows actually loses a certain amount of time looking for scheduled tasks and shared printers on the remote computer. It is possible to cancel these slow searches so as to speed up the process.
On the computer running Windows XP, launch the Windows registry editor by clicking the “Start” button at the bottom left. Next click on “Run” and in the input field type “regedit” followed by the Enter key.

Once you are in the registry, go to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace
Two keys will be presents:
{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} : To verify scheduled tasks
{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D} : To look for shared printers
Delete one key or the other, or even both if you don’t require these functions.
