Today, AccessData
announced the release of the Mobile
Phone Examiner Plus® (MPE+) Tablet designed
to make in-depth mobile phone data immediately available during on-scene
cell phone investigations, saving time for examiners back at the lab.
“The MPE+ Tablet is easier to use and less cumbersome than other common
field solutions,” commented former law enforcement officer and leading
mobile forensics educator, Lee Reiber. Reiber is Director of Mobile
Forensics at AccessData Group and has personally led the development of
the MPE+ software and field tablet solutions.
With thousands of mobile device models built on several different
operating systems and proprietary technologies, law enforcement,
government agencies and even corporations struggle to find tools that
will allow them to analyze and preserve evidence from each device they
encounter. AccessData has proven itself as a leader in delivering mobile
forensics technology that addresses this challenge, and has also placed
great emphasis on making mobile device seizures in the field quicker and
easier.
Other field tools allow an examiner to acquire mobile device data, but
then require the examiner to transfer that data into a different module
before evidence can be analyzed. In many cases, alternative mobile
forensics tools are too cumbersome. For example, they have to be
installed on laptops, or worse yet, the solution comes in the form of a
kiosk. “The new MPE+ Tablet is lightweight, intuitive and allows the
field examiner to preview, acquire, and analyze evidence right at the
scene of the device seizure. The examiner is also able to generate a
customized evidence report on the spot, saving a great deal of time for
forensic investigators back at the lab,” explained Reiber.
The MPE+ Tablet comes preconfigured with MPE+ 4.6, the latest version of
this market-leading solution. MPE+ is a stand-alone cell phone forensics
solution that integrates seamlessly with the leading computer forensics
technology, Forensic
Toolkit® (FTK®). This integration with FTK
allows investigators to correlate evidence from multiple mobile devices
with evidence from multiple computers, thus further increasing the
efficiency and efficacy of digital forensics examiners.
MPE+ v4.6 includes “ClickOnce Installation” and auto updating in two
modes. Online mode automatically confirms MPE+ has the
latest software and drivers and prompts the user to install if an active
internet connection is present. Offline mode supports installation of
the latest software updates and drivers from our secure server. Reiber
stated, “We recognize and do our best to support all workflows and
security requirements. Most importantly, we want our client base to
spend their time catching the bad guys, rather than maintaining our
software.”
