Amazon Appstore: the addition of in-app purchases
Recently added to their applications download portal, the in-app function is now accessible to developers who access Amazon’s Appstore.
Slowly but surely, the Amazon Appstore portal is being built as an attractive active distribution channel for mobile applications by developers who want to see their creations appear on the Kindle Fire tablet or Android devices.
This alternative to the Android Market (since renamed the Play Store in Google Play) offers a distinct presentation which initially had the aim of overcoming some of the problems with Google’s portal (things have since improved): making it easier to push applications at various pricing points as Amazon will have the possibility of changing prices and organizing promotions.
The portal also offers a Test Drive function allowing users to trial applications on an emulator before purchasing them, with this providing better visibility to commercial applications which don’t have a trial version.
The Amazon Appstore has just celebrated their first year in business with more than 31000 applications available. It would appear that it is successfully playing its role as a visit generator which extends Amazon’s portal. Continuing in this direction, Amazon has announced the arrival of the In-App purchase options (purchase an element or service directly from within the applications) which allows for applications that regularly deliver content or virtual goods.

Amazon can also hope to capture the attention of developers by providing them with revenue opportunities linked to their applications and one click purchase. This function has been a success in the App Store, unleashing a wave of mobile applications oriented towards the virtual goods market which was then picked up by the Android Market and other portals not long after.
To complete the user’s experience, the in-app purchase can be executed via Amazon’s 1-Click which is already present on their shopping site so that users don’t have to continually enter the same information required to make purchases.
