AMD sued for defective products

Quanta Computer has decided to sue AMD for providing chips that they believe are defective.

Quanta Computer logoTaiwanese group Quanta Computer, who manufacturers products for brands Apple, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, NEC and Sony, has decided to take Californian AMD to court.

They claim that they were provided poor quality products for the manufacture of computers sold under the NEC brand, with chips that poorly support the heat and which are not adapted to all use.

According to Quanta Computer, this has seen them prejudiced in terms of their image vis-a-vis their clients and the cost linked to numerous returns. They have also claimed damages and interest for negligence and interference with a contract (that signed with NEC).

AMD has rejected all accusations, indicating that these chips are used in other computers without any of the problems that have been reported here.

We will now have to see what the courts think. No doubt Intel will be happy with such a public lynching of their major competitor.
