American
Science and Engineering, Inc. (“AS&E”) (NASDAQ: ASEI), a leading
worldwide supplier of innovative X-ray detection solutions, announced
today that it has received an order for 36 Gemini™
parcel and baggage X-ray inspection systems to protect a high-threat
commercial facility in India. The Gemini
6040 and Gemini
100100 systems will inspect parcels, baggage, and delivery goods at
various checkpoints in the facility. The Gemini system combines two
complementary technologies in one comprehensive system for enhanced
detection of explosive threats.
“AS&E’s Gemini systems will provide an effective solution to inspect
small parcels and large packages entering the high profile facility in
India,” said Anthony Fabiano, AS&E’s President and CEO. “The Gemini’s
unique multi-technology capability provides security officials with the
most information about briefcases, packages, and parcels entering the
facility with a comprehensive ability to detect both metallic and
organic, explosive threats — even in cluttered environments. We are most
pleased to be working with this new high profile customer in support of
its important security initiatives.”
Gemini:
Unique Multi-Technology Parcel Inspection Systems
The Gemini parcel inspection system is the lowest cost multi-technology
parcel inspection system on the market and the only system to combine
AS&E’s Z
Backscatter™ technology and dual-energy transmission.
AS&E’s Z Backscatter technology provides enhanced detection of organic
materials such as explosives (including sheet and liquid explosives),
drugs, and plastic weapons which are easily missed by transmission-only
systems in cluttered parcels. Z Backscatter technology’s photo-like
images are easy to interpret, thereby speeding analysis time,
potentially decreasing bags flagged for secondary screening, and
reducing operator fatigue. Dual-energy transmission provides outstanding
image quality, and enables the quick detection of a wide variety of
threats such as guns, knives, and wires for Improvised Explosive Devices
(IEDS). In addition, dual-energy offers organic and metallic
discrimination. The Gemini
6040, Gemini
7555, and Gemini
100100 systems offer multiple tunnel sizes to inspect air cargo,
large packages, break-bulk cargo, mail and other small parcels to meet
the security requirements for customs checkpoints, high-threat
facilities, building lobbies, air-cargo facilities, and mailrooms.
