Analogix Semiconductor, Inc., a world leader in high-performance digital
media interface solutions, today announced the launch of its
patent-pending SlimPort(TM) technology, which allows smartphones and
other SlimPort-enabled mobile devices to deliver uncompressed 3D HD
audio and video to large screen HDTVs and other displays over the
existing mobile USB connector without draining the mobile devices’
batteries. SlimPort transmitters work with power saving CoolHD(TM)
Analogix technology to enable HDTVs to play back digital media from any
mobile device – including tablets, MP4 players, digital cameras, mobile
phones and camcorders – using the existing mobile USB connector and
existing display devices such as HDTVs, monitors and projectors.
“Device manufacturers are increasingly incorporating HD playback into
their portable products, and users of these devices want a simple way to
view video, apps and enterprise applications on a larger screen,” said
Dr. Kewei Yang, Chairman and CEO of Analogix. “SlimPort is the natural
evolution of our award winning CoolHD zero power HDMI technology. Not
only does it save power but it also removes the need for additional
connectors on the mobile unit. Devices that take advantage of SlimPort
are able to offer an uncompromised fully immersive end user experience
in a sleeker and lighter form factor.”
The ability to connect smartphones or other mobile devices to external
displays has historically been limited because manufacturers were either
reluctant to incur the cost or unable to find room for an extra
connector. SlimPort not only offers the ability for the mobile device to
utilize a single connector for charging, data synchronization and
multimedia playback, but also provides increased compatibly with a
larger range of display by supporting multiple display interconnect
standards. With SlimPort’s built-in HDMI and other legacy display
converters, all that’s required to connect any device to any display is
a standard USB connector and an ultra-thin SlimPort cable. SlimPort
technology enables a wide range of entertainment options for consumers,
as well as productivity applications for professionals on the go.
Technology Benefits:
SlimPort delivers numerous benefits, including:
Uses Existing Mobile USB Connectors
SlimPort uses standard mobile USB connectors to deliver content to any
external display with the user’s choice of a thin cable (up to five
meters long), or docking station to give users a simple, totally
transparent plug-and-play experience.
Connects to any Display
SlimPort works with all standard interfaces, including VGA, DVI and
other legacy systems, as well as HDMI 1.4a and next-generation
DisplayPort(TM) displays, supporting up to 3D 1080p with 7.1 channel
audio.
Supports Simultaneous Displays
SlimPort allows users to display their mobile desktop on a large screen.
It can also support multiple displays with different applications
running on each monitor. Now enterprise users and consumers can enjoy a
variety of mobile applications simultaneously, on multiple displays.
Extends Battery Life
CoolHD technology from Analogix recovers and recycles power from the
display, preserving the portable device’s battery charge during HD
playback and allowing users to continue using their mobile phones for
enterprise applications, emails and voice calls.
Recharges Device During Playback
CoolHD technology also charges mobile devices during HDTV playback,
keeping mobile devices recharged and ready to go, even after extended
viewing.
Integrates with TV Remote
Utilizing HDMI’s Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) capability,
SlimPort-enabled mobile devices can be controlled while connected to any
CEC-capable display.
Fully Compliant with Existing Standards
Fully compliant with HDMI 1.4a and legacy HDMI, DVI and VGA standards.
Hollywood Standard Content Protection
SlimPort is fully compliant with Hollywood Standard Content Protection
(HDCP) to protect copyrighted content from unauthorized interception.
No Royalties Required
Analogix developed its SlimPort technology with consumers in mind. With
no royalty payments required, it is the most cost effective solution.
Product Demonstrations at Mobile World Congress
Analogix will unveil new SlimPort and CoolHD products on Feb. 14,
2011, during the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, Spain. Visit
the Analogix booth (2B97, Hall 2) for a demonstration of the SlimPort
platform and detailed product discussions.
About SlimPort(TM)
SlimPort, a patent-pending technology, allows smartphones and other
mobile devices to transmit uncompressed HD audio and video over existing
mobile USB connectors. Utilizing a single connector for charging, data
synchronization and multimedia connectivity, device manufacturers are
able to design slimmer sleeker devices. SlimPort mobile devices connect
directly to HDTVs and other displays through simple, ultra-thin cables.
Leveraging CoolHD technology, SlimPort supports zero power conversion to
HDMI and is compatible with multiple other display interfaces such as
DVI, DisplayPort and VGA.
About CoolHD(TM)
CoolHD, a patent-pending technology, enables HDMI transmitters to
recover and recycle the wasted HDMI-TMDS link power which otherwise
would be lost as transmitter heat dissipation. By operating on recycled
power, CoolHD HDMI transmitters significantly extend the battery life
and reduce the heat dissipation of connected handheld devices.
