Android: 1.3 million activations daily

September 06th, 2012 - 11:30 am ET by C. D.

The number of daily activations of Android continues to grow over the months, with more than a million each day now being recorded according to Eric Schmidt speaking at a Motorola press conference for the launch of new Droid smartphones.

The Motorola press conference has been used by Google to unveil numerous smartphones in the Droid smartphone family, with the Motorola Droid RAZR HD, Droid RAZR HD MAXX and Droid RAZR M. These are all LTE compatible and are being aimed initially at the US market (soon to be distributed by Verizon Wireless).

Before their presentation, Eric Schmidt, president of Google’s board of directors, provided some information about the Android platform which now has 1.3 million activations daily.

The OS is still showing solid growth, as Andy Ruban stated that there was 900 000 activations in June 2012. Out of all these activations, only a fraction is related to tactile Android tablets: 70 000. This nevertheless still allows Google to largely dominate smartphones, with more than 60% of the global market being controlled by Android.
