Bug#681067: xmonad: fails to compile config file with gold

July 10th, 2012 - 08:10 am ET by Albin Stjerna | Report spam
Package: xmonad
Version: 0.10-4+b2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
Since a recent update, xmonad won't compile its xmonad.hs. The problem seems to be with the Gold linker, because I get the following error:

Error detected while loading xmonad configuration file: /home/albin/.xmonad/xmonad.hs
/usr/bin/ld.gold.real: --hash-size1: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld.gold.real: use the --help option for usage information
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

Apparently, there's a problem with the --hash-size switch. I guess this is because my Gold version is too old, but any workaround while the newer version of Gold makes its way to the wheezy repositories would be much welcomed.

Thanks in advance,
Albin

it’s not actually problem in xmonad but rather a problem with ghc, see
#673081. I am marking this bug as blocked by the other.

Removing binutils-gold is probably a work-around for the issue.

Joachim

Thanks, that seems to have worked for me.
