Desktop Linux is dead. Long live Linux.

The most relevant aspect to this group:
To its credit, Linux has a phenomenal support system, and loyal,
knowledgeable users willing to help guide you through the murky waters.
Of course, it's often difficult to find them through the sea of
self-righteous flamers who berate you for not knowing what you're
doing.
Sound like people who post here? Like someone who just called me an
"ignorant fuck"?

This ignorant fuck will be looking forward to trying the HUD on 12.04. I
actually use Ubuntu and don't mistranslate the word. This is it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu...losophy%29

How many on this forum actually abide by that instead of being snarky
sniper assholes?

Why would you stop using Ubuntu, (I'm assuming you used that distro as
that is the name of this group), because of comments from posters here?
The place to get real and civilised help is from the Ubuntu forums.

You can get good help here. You just have to filter out the
personal/general noise. And if you're in the mood for an argument with
some really "out there" people, turn off the filter for a little while :)

I'm sure you can.

However, why would you feel the need to wade through the bile in order
to gather the gems that are freely available elsewhere?

I read this group daily in order to see who is insulting who at the time.

I only posted because it seemed that one poster had given up on Linux
because of the treatment he received here.

His reply to me seemed to suggest that he was actually never seriously
intending to use Linux anyway so I wasted my time and for my trouble
picked up a few gratuitous insults from one of the usual crowd.

Water of Dapper Drakes back in my case but I would hate see someone keen
to get to grips with a new OS discouraged by the lack of support often
shown to a newby here and wished only to point him/her to a more
civilised help group.

October of 2004 was 10 years ago? My, how the time does fly.

With statements like that do you expect to have /any/
validity /anywhere/?

ABOUT ten years, dumbfuck.

I have been at my job for seven years now, but they only have me as
being at 6. AND I was hired in '04.

So, even after subtracting my hiatus, I get 8 years, but they say 6.

So, you are a nit pick pussy as well?

Xubuntu is far better than what this Ubu dork crew has "arrived" at.

Best bet would be for an Ubu clone, who/that filches from the Ubu
update repositories, yet segregates itself from the Ubu stupidity that
has come down the pipe.

Since the Dapper Drake, and on looking it up, it was in 2006.
Seems longer ago.

I have no interest in your validation. It is worth zilch.

More of him than that weighs in at that valuation.

Good job.

If you can't tell 6 years from 10 years is isn't /my/ validation you
should be worrying about.

Cybe R. Wizard

No. Behavior like that is something *YOU* should be worrying about,
simpleton.

It is much the same for me, yet retirement was really only 15 years ago.

I checked that before stating it.

If a mis-remembered date in your opinion invalidates everything I
write then my representation of the standard of discourse in this and
many other usenet groups is demonstrated a fresh.

Again, it isn't my opinion which should worry you, but your own
inability to check your opinions before stating them as truths.
