HGS

I'm starting to think they should put the HGS onto
most all high performance planes.. It's the cats
heiney for night landings. It really makes visual
approaches a piece of cake. Doesn't hurt in the fog
either..
But you can fly an approach, and it sure makes it
easy to keep on the localizer and glideslope.
You just aim the trend indicator at the landing
point, and everything else falls into place.
No looking up and down at the PFD/ND to check the
glideslope. It's all right in the view.

Another NM5K adventure video I shot going into KHOT
this early AM using my 737-600 BBJ. :/ I was on autopilot
until I captured the localizer and then clicked it
off. Note how I just aim the trend indicator at the
runway and all clicks into place. Once I got on track,
it showed me good to go for cat III.. But I flew it
by hand just using the trend indicator, and the
occasional glance at the glideslope to verify I'm
OK.
That thing will spoil you after a while. At night
is where I really like having it.

Definitely a very good hand job. I used to use the HUD for Helicopters when
I was learning to fly them. It, too will spoil you. But it is so helpful. I
do like that display in your 737. But HGS does not compute. What does that
stand for?

Head-up Guidance System.. Some call it HUGS.. Some call
it HUD.. Same basic deal..
Boeing also has a EVS "Enhanced Vision System" option that can
draw the outside terrain on the HGS.
