How do I login as root?

April 28th, 2012 - 03:47 am ET by mike | Report spam
Ubuntu 12.04
I want to push the power button
and have the system automatically enter the root password
and log me in as root with all the GUI features that I'd have
as a regular user. Also have to figure out how to enter a root password.

Note that I did NOT ask if you thought it was a good idea.
I did NOT ask for a workaround that you like better.
Yes, I know about sudo...

I asked exactly the question I want answered...HOW to do it.

As always, I can't stop you from stating opinions, but please
do it AFTER you answer the question.

So leave your torches, pitchforks and stakes in the garage.

Thanks

We don't care: it is a bad idea.

Setting root password and editing /etc/gdm/custom.conf should do the
trick. If you don't know what I'm talking about or how to do it - you
should *really* reconsider your plan.

Oh, sorry, I missed that you meant 12.04, it has LightDM with
configuration file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf - as far as I see, the
syntax is similar to gdm's.
