This is a much better method of installation.

Libre Office 3.3 is better and much faster!

For most things I run an old IBM X40 which is like an under powered
netbook running Mint 9 LTS. I use this machine for Internet and I
keep expecting that it will become slow and generally unusable but it
does not seem to happen.

Anyway half way through the installation I thought what had I done?
New software usually means more resourses. To my surprise Libre Office
3.3 is at least twice as fast as the Open Office version I had.

Calc as got much crisper and better charting.

Writer is also very fast.

Have not looked at Base yet.

I will install it on my i5 Acer.

Yes I have it here and I thought it was quicker. Certainly more accurate
at opening MS files. Libreoffice does a better job than MS Office for some
of them! :)

How can they pack more features and make it so much faster?

Well, I have finally removed LibreOffice Base. What a heap of crap. I
have migrated my last dependency on Base to a Python application built
with psycopg2, wxGlade and wxPython. It is umpteen times faster and has a
far better UI. Writer and Calc are fine, but Base stinks.
