Locked iinformation after password set-up...

November 02nd, 2008 - 06:52 am ET by Stephen Woodward | Report spam
I've set up a laptop using the standard 'user accounts' through the control
panel and since adding in a password for the main administrator I'm no longer
able to access any of the documents I have on the laptop itself. The
available memory is reading as about 4gb (implying that I have 32gb of
material on the 40gb unit) when I can only access about 1gb through the 'my
documents' links. I seem to clearly have the material on the unit but I don't
have a means to access it.

I have tried to restore settings to an earlier date in the hope that this
will rectify the problem and this has not been effective - the process was
not completed after several attempts - can anyone advise on this...?

NB: You've posted this to a Windows server setup group - doesn't sound like
it's the right group for your question.

I'm presuming that means you werelogging in as Administrator beforehand

The available memory

In Explorer, find the Administrator's documents and settings folder, and
take ownership of it.

See http://www.winxptutor.com/ownership.htm - if that doesn't help, try
posting a new, updated message to a more appropriate newsgroup, such as
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general (if using XP, of course). Good luck.
