Microsoft Flight

I was reading in the new edition of Computer Pilot Magazine about
Microsoft's Flight, in an article entitled, "Is your system ready?" I
decided to visit the site to see what was going on with the newest Flight
Simulator. Numerous screen shots that are quite impressive as are the
videos available there. The screen shot comparison of how fog and clouds
appear looks pretty nice.

The magazine article also has a link for a benchmark program you can run on
your computer, testing DX11. I downloaded and ran the program and on my new
Asus G74SX laptop. Oh My GAWD. The graphics in that benchmark program are
like NOTHING I have ever seen on a computer before. Pressing F3 to toggle
ON & OFF "tessellation" (a word I have never heard of prior to reading the
article) really demonstrates some amazing changes in the graphic object.

Yowzers! Danny, this is a 229Mb test program. My first Hard Drive was only
40Mb. I was expecting something in the Kilobyte region. Why has everything
gotten so big. I'll take your word for it that DX11 is fabbo. Have you
noticed that every pic and movie that MS has revealed of FLIGHT is based in
Hawaii.

Hi Danny,

Benchmarked at only a lousy 2 fps on my creaky old Dual Core E6850
extreme, but still impressive stuff, mate!!

Thanks for the link.

I did notice the Hawaii location. I am going to let the benchmark run later
this evening and see what sort of results I get. Most of the FPS while the
demo is running was as low as 17 and I saw 43+ a lot of the times.

I've had a copy of Heaven on my system for perhaps a year and its
pretty good. On highest resolution and leaving tessalation etc on its
default values my system averages 57fps, highest goes up to over 100.
Futuremarks 3DMark11 is even BETTER, the graphics are amazing. You
can get a free version like most of their products but if you want to
increase the stress on your gpu by higher res etc then you need to
purchase the advanced version

Forgot to mention I recently read that MS Flight's development had
been put on HOLD as MS evaluate it's revenue potential and customer
base :(
