Reinstalling Office 2000 Professional

May 25th, 2007 - 02:45 pm ET by hdrabon | Report spam
I had to "start over" on my system after a crash. The IT guy who saved my
data installed an OEM version of Office 2000 Premium, without the Service
Packs, etc., in order to "keep" my data. I was to do the updates when I got
the machine home.

MY version is Office 2000 Professional. I'm trying to install Office 2000
Service Release 1-a, Service Pack 3, etc., but cannot because the SR and SP
installations seem to be looking for a PREMIUM disc to complete the
installation.

I've downloaded and saved the updates a couple of times with the same
result. I've installed my Professional "over" the Premium, but still with the
same results.

How can I get those updates installed and ensure my online security?

Thank you,

Hubert D. Rabon

Use control panel "Add or Remove Programs" to uninstall Office 2000
completely, then install a fresh copy from your installation CD.

Robin,

That's what I was beginning to think. Now, the question I have is about my
Outlook .pst. I have the one that is in current use, and a current backup on
another disc.

Will my Outlook file act squirrly as a result of uninstalling the Premium.
I've got lots of folders, and have organized a lot of stuff.

Mainly, though, I just don't want to lose anything in there.

Thank you again,

Hubert

To be honest, I don't t know the answer. So I would play safe and backup
the file before I started, in case I need to restore it afterwards.

You might want to ask this in the Outlook newsgroups.
