They stumbled around a bit at the very start,
but once they committed to building
their own installer and package manager, they really took off
and showed what an *independent* distro can do.

I used to think they were based on MAndriva, but then someone
told me they built upon Gentoo, just like Cuba's distro. Sabayon too uses
Gentoo, so it seems like its derivatives outlive the parent/ancestor.

Well, it seems not many know anything about Pardus here. I suppose because they not make any promotion/marketing to talk about.They looked at Gentoo for the first live 1.0 version. Later version like 2007 was own produced, not a fork from Gentoo. Nothing to do with Mandriva. Read the full history here:
