URL in email: No longer simply passed to Firefox...

(This is Mandriva 2010.2, with KDE 4.5.2)

Something odd has started happening when I click on a URL in an email.

Normally, clicking on a URL in an email just passes it to Firefox
(default Web Browser).
That was on Friday, but today - first day back after weekend away -
it has gone haywire.

(I have not knowingly changed anything; no s/w update, no adjustments.
No one else can have used the PC.)

What happens now is that something copies data to a temp file and
passes the path to that to Firefox, resulting in a screen less 'graphic'
than the usual.

(The file passed to Firefox as target is e.g.:

file:///var/tmp/kdecache-mab/krun/12671.0.show_bug.cgi

instead of the URL as in email:

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?idV92 )

(If I copy/paste the URL directly from email to Forefox, it opens
normally.)

And if the URL has a 'php' component, e.g.:

https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewforum.php?f=7

Firefox opens, and then I see:

"You have chosen to open 17269.0.viewforum.php from
/var/tmp/kdecache-mab/krun. What should Firefox do with this file?"

If I agree to open it with Firefox, I get:
"Firefox can't find the file at
/var/tmp/kdecache-mab/krun/17269.0.viewforum.php."

N.B. On my laptop - also running Mandriva 2010.2, but with KDE 4.4.5 -
it all works normally, wth the same URL's i the same emails...

I've tried logout/łogin and even reboot - no difference.

Can anyone see what needs to be done to return it (and my sanity) back
to normal, please?!

I have seen this. On my attempt to upgrade via MIB to the
2010.3, despite the fact that KDE used the default browser of Firefox,
the URL was passed to Opera which I then deleted. Then I could
use a Copy URL to get to Firefox. The OS came up with a requester
as to which tool it should be copied to and choosing Firefox
worked.
2010.3 eventually fell all over its self and I re-installed
the 2010.1 then updated to 2010.2(KDE 4.4.5). The problem with the
browser getting the URL was gone today. Happily the re-install went
much more smoothly than previously. Still wasted a day doing this.
Sorry I don't have better advice but the replies I got when
this first showed up were not very useful.
Also my hibernate failed on some update a few weeks back
but when I got this re-install finished, that was fixed as well.
The advice on that problem was non-existent.

I've narrowed this down to the extent that the problem only occurs:

(1) When the URL begins "https", and
(2) From within a message in KMail.

- regardless of whether Firefox or e.g. Opera is nominated as web.
brower..
Same problem with the other user on this system.

I.e. no problem with 'https' in URL's in e.g. Pan messages.

I can see no option in KMail settings that might cause the different
treatment of URL's beginning 'https'.

Please, can anyone throw any light in this situation?

As an example, of the following 2 URL's in Kmail:

http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?idD664
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?idD664

- the first behaves normally (as if URL given to Firefox)

- the 2nd copies something and hands the path of that info to Firefox,
(which then shows a less graphice version of the target web page).

Nor in KMail in Mageia-2-Beta3 and openSUSE 12.1...

So what's got into Mandriva?!

Turns out there is a bug in kdelibs 4.5.2 that cannot cope with
'https', so always caches the web page and hands it to browser.
(I opted to upgrade to KDE 4.5.2 many months ago.)

Read all about it here:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id7483

The $64 question is: Is there any hope of running that bigfix on
Mandriva 2010.2?!
Alternatively/preferably, is there a way I could get an updated
kdelibs 4.5.2?

I would much appreciate any suggestions...
