Apple: iOS 4.1 update available

As anticipated, the iOS 4.1 update for the iPhone and iPod Touch is now available for download, bringing with it some new features.

Apple iOSAfter the announcement of the new iPod range, Steve Jobs confirmed that an update to iOS 4.1 for the iPhone and iPod Touch would be made available, correcting certain problems while also providing users of these devices with new functions.

One of the most visible changes is the arrival of Game Center (accessible only from the iPhone 3GS or higher or the iPod Touch 2G and higher), and a community gaming network which will allow you to invite your friends to participate in multiplayer games and compare high scores.


An improvement to the iPhone 3G’s reactivity

Apple HDR 01The update also adds the possibility of renting television series from iTunes. For the iPhone 4, it has been announced that problems linked to the front lens have been corrected, along with the Bluetooth’s performance and HDR finishing for photos taken from an iPhone 4.

This evolution of iOS 4.1 is also important for the iPhone 3G as it should correct the slowness problems seen with iOS 4.0 since June, while also improving its reactivity. The update doesn’t concern the iPad tablet, although changes are planned for November to make the device multi-tasking while providing wireless printing with the iOS 4.2 update.

iOS 4.1 is accessible from the iTunes application and is available freely for download on all compatible handsets.
