It has taken some time to arrive but Apple has finally announced its availability – the upgrade to iOS 4.2 has been released for the iPhone, iPod Touch and especially the iPad tablet which will now benefit from multitasking, Game Centre and AirPrint.
The release date of the update has for a long time been a mystery, with a lot of speculation being made about the reasons for the late release and when this may finally come. The suspense has now been broken with Apple announcing yesterday the iOS 4.2 update is available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
While the iPhone and iPod Touch have already been upgraded to iOS 4, with its range of new functions, it is especially on the iPad tablet where things are going to change. This device remained on iOS version 3.2.2 and didn’t yet have some functions like multitasking.
Multitasking, folders, AirPlay, AirPrint
iOS 4.2 repairs some issues while also adding certain functions already present in iOS 4 which has previously been available on the iPhone/iPod Touch, but not the iPad. We also find the possibility of creating folders for arranging applications, the appearance of Game Centre, the unified email inbox, and other new features like AirPlay and AirPrint which have already been seen during a preview of iOS 4.2.
We also find the AirPlay function for streaming music, photo and video to compatible devices (Apple TV, for example) and another named AirPrint which assured wireless printing to compatible printers.
iOS 4.2 for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad is available through the iTunes application.
