iPhone 5’s launch date confirmed for the 21st of September?

September 05th, 2012 - 01:10 pm ET by C. D.

To be unveiled on the 12th of September, could the iPhone 5 be then made available to certain markets on the 21st? When Apple changes the opening date of a new Apple Store in Germany to the 20th, it could be a sign that a new iPhone is being released soon after.

The rumour doing the rounds is that a new iPhone will be unveiled on the 12th of September, followed by a launch in Apple’s largest markets on the 21st of September. Other markets would then follow in early October according to anonymous sources quoted by various web sites.

While nothing has been officially confirmed, a few clues have been picked up which support this scenario. The site MacRumors states that the Apple Store in Sindelfingen, Germany, was supposed to open on the 22nd of September, but it appears the date has now been brought forward to the 20th.

Coordinating the opening of an Apple Store with the launch of a new iPhone would help with sales of the brands new products that would result from more customers through the door. This also wouldn’t be the first time that such an opening had been moved for such a release: the opening of the Houston Apple Store was pushed a day to match with the launch date of the new iPad in Mach 2012, to the same precise hour – 8am.

The other piece of news which makes the 21st look like a likely candidate date for the launch is that Germany is one of the first countries to release Apple products. The alleged release calendar (as Apple has not officially confirmed anything) is looking like a release on the 21st of September in the United States and major international markets, before going to the rest of the world slightly later.
