Last time Avast updated the program (as opposed to the virus
definitions), it installed Google Chrome without my consent. Folks
at the time told me there was a checkbox in some window that I had
missed, and that might well be true because I trusted Avast and
didn't monitor the update carefully.
This time, when the program wanted to update to 7.0.1426, I watched
the windows very carefully indeed, and there was no checkbox or other
option for Google Chrome. However, when the update was complete,
Control Panel » Programs and Features also showed that Google Chrome
was not installed.
So it looks like Avast cleaned up its act and no longer installs
Google Chrome as a ride-along.
