Avoid Chain letter with Windows Live Hotmail

April 08th, 2008 - 05:15 am ET by D. T.

You have probably already asked your friends to stop sending you chain letters that circulate on the internet, and despite this, do you continually find your inbox polluted? Its time to say stop and react without any more waiting. To avoid these undesired messages, we will use the sort function provided in Windows Live Hotmail.

Once you have the main window open, go to the “Options” menu and click on “Other option” right at the bottom.

In the options, go to the part titled “Customize your mail” and select the “Automatically sort email into folders” option. Next click on the “New filter” button to create a new message sorting rule.

You should know that chain letters are continually sent, with users clicking on the “forward” button. The subject of a chain letter consequently has a very high chance of containing “FW”. You therefore simply need to redirect messages containing the subject “FW” to the Junk folder.

This method doesn’t guarantee that all chain messages will be filtered, but it will without a doubt get rid of most undesired messages. You should probably remember to take a look in the junk folder from time to time though to be sure that you haven’t accidentally filtered a real message.
