The Boston Globe’s new website BostonGlobe.com
has been honored with the 2011 EPpy Awards for Best Daily Newspaper
Website and Best Overall Website Design.
The prestigious EPpy
Awards, now in their 16th year, honor the best media
websites around the world. Winning websites are chosen by the team at Editor
& Publisher magazine and a panel of judges.
BostonGlobe.com was a finalist for the Best Daily Newspaper Website
along with other major national newspapers, including the Financial
Times and Newsday, and was in the running for the Best Overall Website
Design Category against CBS Interactive / CBS.com and The Globe and Mail.
BostonGlobe.com launched in September as the Globe’s new digital
subscription website, and is the only site that provides access to the
full range and depth of the Globe’s journalism, along with offering
video, photo galleries and breaking news throughout the day, all in an
elegantly-designed format that’s optimized for reading on a tablet,
smartphone, laptop or desktop.
In addition, Boston.com won the EPpy Awards for Best Entertainment
Website and Best Online Media Advertising/Marketing Campaign. Other
finalists in the Best Entertainment category included NPR, Entertainment
Weekly, and Newsday.
“This recognition for Boston.com and BostonGlobe.com is an eloquent and
much appreciated statement about the extraordinary accomplishments of
our two sites," said Boston Globe editor Martin Baron. "Boston.com
continues to demonstrate why it is among the most popular community news
and information sites in the country, and the new BostonGlobe.com is
clearly at an exciting frontier for news-oriented web sites.”
Boston.com was also a finalist in multiple other categories: Best
Community Service on a Media-Affiliated Website, Best Crowd Sourcing or
Citizen Journalism, Best News Website, Best News or Event Feature on a
Website, Best Enterprise Feature on a Website, Best Sports Website, Best
News Political Blog and Best Sports Video.
