Internet addiction may be a reality based on a recent Broadband Expert
survey of gender lifestyle priorities. From the beverages we drink, the
entertainment we watch and the cars we drive, adult consumers care
differently about presumed necessities of life, including web access.
The consumer study of Internet priorities by gender, age and on-line
behavior by value-finder service BroadbandExpert.com has found some
interesting sentiment about adult lifestyle interests and the sacrifices
some would make to preserve a web connection.
“Broadband access is a necessity in many peoples’ lives, so much so that
we wondered what other things they would give up to maintain a web
connection,“ explained Rob Webber, CEO. “People never fail to surprise.”
Surprising responses from over 1,000 male and female participants age 18
and over regarding home broadband use indicate:
-
Nearly half spend 26 or more hours on-line at home weekly, and women
more so than men.
-
They are hard at work at home, with email and news dominating gaming
and shopping
-
Respondents are web-surfing more and drinking less, choosing broadband
over alcohol and caffeine
-
The web leads sex, health, and TV/movies over other priority
activities and pursuits
The gender survey of broadband activity also revealed a few lifestyle
priority surprises by age group. Women ages 36-45 ranked sex less
important than the web, caffeine, shopping and even watching TV and
movies. Men ages 18-25 spend most of their home online time checking
their email and social networks, far surpassing education and research,
which ranked 6th out of 8 online activities. Find more data
