Bug#630202: libmtp-runtime: mtp-probe prevents virtualbox guest to access scanner on usb port
June 12th, 2011 - 06:10 am ET by S. G. | Report spam
Package: libmtp-runtime
Version: 1.0.6-6
Severity: important
With upgrading libmtp8 from 1.0.6-2 to 1.0.6-6 also libmtp-runtime 1.0.6-6 was
installed on my wheezy-system.
It now showed up that this package results in a failure accessing my scanner
through a virtualbox guest which worked flawlessly before the upgrade.
When plugging in the scanner syslog records:
Jun 12 10:56:14 t500sg kernel: [26741.812126] usb 2-2: USB disconnect, address

Jun 12 10:56:49 t500sg kernel: [26776.238522] device tap0 left promiscuous mode

failed cmd mtp-probe rqt 128 rq 6 len 1024 ret -71
When starting the virtualbox guest it complains:
Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device. (Error: VERR_READ_ERROR)
Error Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Deinstalling libmtp-runtime solves the actual problem but now udevd is
complaining:
