Bug#641174: alsa-base: volume control not working - squeeze - GA-G41MT-ES2L - Intel C2D4500 - Realtek 887

September 11th, 2011 - 02:20 am ET by Imran Kazi | Report spam
Package: alsa-base
Version: 1.0.23+dfsg-2
Severity: important

Clicking on volume control shows this message:
The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This
means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that
you don't have a sound card configured.
You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker
icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.

Trying to play audio in mplayer shows this message:

Now, only after adding this line at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=generic

the sound is coming, but the volume control has only Master and PCM volume
control, rest are not present.

could you please try model=auto?

This codec has become its mixer in alsa-driver version 1.0.24 [1]
which is available in Kernel 3.0 from minimum testing. As well I
would advice to update to alsa 1.0.24, which is in testing too.

[1] http://www.alsa-project.org/main/in...23_v1.0.24
Search for 887.

We can't help users running stable which want bleeding edge hardware
drivers. So this bug will be tagged as "wishlist"
