Bug#651708: kdenlive: Kdenlive crashes with segmentation fault on startup

When I invoke "kdenlive" with no arguments from either the default shell in
Konqueror (KDE terminal emulator) or from the KDE menu it always crashes with
segmentation fault.

When run from the command line here is tthe transcript:
~$ kdenlive
