Bug#654885: gnome-power-manager: choosing "Preferences" from applet menu has no effect (not even error message) if gnome-control-center is not installed

January 06th, 2012 - 10:10 am ET by Daniel Kahn Gillmor | Report spam
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 3.2.1-2

I have a gnome-power applet running in my dock (using openbox as my
window-manager, fwiw).

If i click on it and choose "Preferences" from the menu, nothing
visibly happens.

If i attach strace to it (strace -f -p $(pidof gnome-power-manager)),
i see it forking a child process, which in turn tries to exec
gnome-control-center but fails.

If it can't find gnome-control-center, it should at least report the
failure to the user so they don't wait indefinitely wondering what's
up (and perhaps suggest to install gnome-control-center).

Alternately, gnome-power-manager should probably depend on
gnome-control-center.

Thanks for maintaining gnome-power-manager in debian.

Regards,

This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 2440 and 3156)

Please be aware, that in g-p-m 3.2, most of its functionality has been
moved into a gnome-session plugin, i.e. g-p-m is not really useful
outside a gnome session anymore.

Cheers,
Michael
