Can not install USB Drivers

Good find. That is also the reason that I said "generally". I believe that
the big difference is that this particular driver is installed using an inf
file that is available on the CD and Windows is able to get enough
information from the device to identify it.

With the ones where you have to run an exe file first, the inf file is
extracted and becomes available (is extracted to some folder) and then when
you plug in the printer (or other device), the device is recognized and the
driver completes installation based on the information in the inf file.

times because I thought I was reading it wrongthey actually have you
plug the
printer into the computer before installing the drivers.

Generally with USB devices, the manufacturer's instructions tell you not
to
plug in the device until after the drivers are installed. With some, you
are told to restart after the installation, then plug in the printer or
other device. With others, you are instructed to plug in the device
during
the installation. I have yet to see one that has you first plug in the
device and then install drivers.

See if your friend has the instructions for the printer installation -
often
on a "quick start" card.
