The VP-MX10A video camera is the updated version of the VP-MX10. This model with a plastic case that looks “cheap” does have a real bonus though; 4GB of internal memory which allows you to record 113 minutes of high definition video. Like any video camera that has a memory card, the Samsung model also has a free slot so that you can add an SD(HC) or MMC+ card.
Three recording modes are available with normal, fine and super fine. In maximum quality with a resolution of 720 x 576i, the filmed sequences are correct but nothing spectacular. In reality, when viewing a film on the 2.7” LCD screen, things then look completely different when watching on a television or computer monitor. You will start to really notice a video that has been interlaced which is low in quality!
This is the only video camera in the comparison that doesn’t have a digital camera option. This lack is made up for in some ways by the webcam function as well as the installed DV drivers (see the manufacturer’s CD). The use of the camera is typical and practical thanks to the rotating handle. This can be adapted to film whatever you need without any great strain on your wrists.
As for the LCS screen we have to highlight the fact that it is without a doubt the best lit of all the models. The navigation menu isn’t too condensed, which means you sometimes have to search around to change from one function to another. Also, each time you press the browse button on a distant function (anti vibration: on and off, Exposition: auto or manual, zoom/ on or off…).
