Comparison of free burning programs

In this article, we will be presenting six easy to use CD and DVD burning programs which operate under Windows XP, Vista and 7. The programs in this selection stand out from other complicated releases like Roxio Creator 2010 and Nero 9, just to name a few... These tested applications are actually "light" versions, which means that they don’t use a lot of system resources, with almost all being able to burn to CD’s, DVD’s, Blu-ray and HD DVD (data disk, audio disk, video disk, image writing, direct copy, etc...). The selected programs are Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free, BurnAware Free Edition, CDBurnerXP, Deepburner Free, Easy Burner, and InfraRecorder. You should also note that only stable and entirely free versions have been selected!

Comparison of free burning programs

ashampoo1This free version of Ashampoo Burning allows you to complete different projects on CD, DVD and even Blu-ray. The standard functions like data burning (files and folders), audio compilations and films are present, while also noting that backup and restoration functions, direct media copy (CD to CD, DVD to DVD…) and the creation and burning of image files are present.

From the first window you realise that the burning software is very easy to use, with the question being asked of the user "What do you want to do?" There are six different burning categories on offer to you, and by clicking on Burn Files and Folders you can start your new project with any files of your choice (pictures, documents, audio files, etc) or you can update an existing project. By selecting Burn or Rip Music, a large selection of options will open up, with the standard creation of an Audio CD being available from all kinds of files (WAV, MP3, FLAC, WMA, Ogg Vorbis), a data disk containing audio files in the MP3 or WMA format (DVD/DivX players, car stereo’s), a CD which can only be played on the PC, or finally ripping an Audio-CD to the MP3, WMA or WAV formats.

The Audio CD ripper is easy to use, automatically saving the track names from the Internet, while allowing you to vary the play speed and rate (Kbit/s). Burning a film also comes with a lot of options, allowing you to create a Video DVD or Blu-Ray disk depending on your lounge room player, while it is even possible to create video CD’s (VCD) and Super Video CD’s (SVCD). The last point to mention is that you can even select your temporary folder on another hard drive so that audio or video extraction and on the fly copying is made easier (Settings, Temporary File Folder).
