Comparison of free burning programs

In this article, we will be presenting six easy to use CD and DVD burning programs which operate under Windows XP, Vista and 7. The programs in this selection stand out from other complicated releases like Roxio Creator 2010 and Nero 9, just to name a few... These tested applications are actually "light" versions, which means that they don’t use a lot of system resources, with almost all being able to burn to CD’s, DVD’s, Blu-ray and HD DVD (data disk, audio disk, video disk, image writing, direct copy, etc...). The selected programs are Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free, BurnAware Free Edition, CDBurnerXP, Deepburner Free, Easy Burner, and InfraRecorder. You should also note that only stable and entirely free versions have been selected!

Comparison of free burning programs

BurnAware01After completing the installation phase and the optional addition of the ASK.com Toolbar, the welcome page will be displayed with your new default search engine… (How could we resist!) After this has been done, you will be able to access your new burning suite. The welcome interface is clear so that the user is left with no confusion about how tasks can be performed. There is no wizard required to understand how the program works, with the user simply selecting the media to burn by clicking on the corresponding "official logo". The options available are Compact Disc (CD), Video DVD and Blu-ray disk.

The CD burning options are brought together with files and folders containing data CD and bootable CD, multimedia provides you with an audio CD, MP3 CD’s and pictures, with it also being possible to create and burn image files (ISO). Two other essential tools are present, with the formatting of a CD-RW and information provided about a disk. Although not as precise as Nero InfoTool, it is nevertheless sufficient for most users (number of sessions on a disk, supported speeds, capacity, free space, possible writing standards…).

You will find pretty much all of the same burning options for a DVD or Blu-ray disk, although adapted to the different media. For a DVD disk, the user is able to create a data DVD, bootable DVD, Video DVD, or MP3 DVD. For a BD-R or BD-RE (rewritable) everything is possible: a Blu-ray MP3 data disk, create a Blu-ray image file, erase a disk, etc.

The real advantage of this free burning program is that the user doesn’t get lost in useless details. The interface remains the same, with the range of options and settings not being overbearing (multi-session disks, the choice of system files (UDF, ISO), burning speed, labels, burning date and changes). BurnAware Free Edition is a low memory use program which is light and very effective!
