Comparison of free burning programs

In this article, we will be presenting six easy to use CD and DVD burning programs which operate under Windows XP, Vista and 7. The programs in this selection stand out from other complicated releases like Roxio Creator 2010 and Nero 9, just to name a few... These tested applications are actually "light" versions, which means that they don’t use a lot of system resources, with almost all being able to burn to CD’s, DVD’s, Blu-ray and HD DVD (data disk, audio disk, video disk, image writing, direct copy, etc...). The selected programs are Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free, BurnAware Free Edition, CDBurnerXP, Deepburner Free, Easy Burner, and InfraRecorder. You should also note that only stable and entirely free versions have been selected!

FreeEasy01Free Easy CD DVD Burner is a good example of a successful, modern and free burning program. The graphical interface is clear and easy to understand, with only a second required to work out how to perform all of the functions! The five representative icons indicate the main options available to the user.

Free Easy CD DVD Burner supports drag and drop data burning to CD’s and DVD’s from the explorer window, while over the course of your projects creation, the horizontal bar displayed at the bottom of the screen will indicate the remaining space available. Still in data mode, you can create an ISO or BIN image file, as well as a multi-session CD. The Burn Proof technology can also be activated to ensure that you encounter no failed writing sessions. The ideal burning speed is calculated depending on the media, but you can reduce this for delicate backups if you want… Finally, two other options can be configured: the buffer size (from 8 to 128 MB) and the tasks priority (normal or high).

The second tab allows you to create a Video DVD. You simply have to add the "AUDIO_TS" and "VIDEO-TS" folders, and then click on Burn! The third function is standard, as this is the creation of a normal Audio CD, with it being possible to import  the WAV, WMA, MP3, OGG, FLAC, AAC and M4A formats, although it is unfortunate that it isn’t possible to increase or reduce the gap time between tracks. The fourth function is CD or DVD copy, either as a direct copy or generating an image file on the hard drive. Finally, the Audio CD Grabber tool icon allows you to find ID3 tags for your Audio CD (FreeCDDB), as well as ripping the CD to your hard drive in either MP3 or WAV format to the My Music folder, or any other of your choice. You can then listen to these tracks with your favourite music player.
