Connecting a Wireless Laptop to an existing local area network.

This tutorial will explain in detail how to connect your WiFi portable to your cabled local area network so that you can share files and surf on the internet with a shared Windows connection. Once installed and configured, your portable will be connected to all the other computers that are on network cable.

b) Configuration of a Laptop to start a Virtual Private Network connection

On the laptop you should now go to “Network Connections” in the control panel and select “Create new connection”, click “Next” and select “Connect to a company network”.

Click “Next” and select “Virtual Private Network”.

Next enter a descriptive name for your connection:

Next, enter the IP address that we noted down on the first PC for the wireless card.

Next, check the “Add a shortcut to my desktop” if you want an icon to be on your desktop and click “Finish”.

Now your VPN connections have been created: double click on the icon on the desktop (or in the network connections) on the laptop and a window will appear asking for the user name (the account we selected on the PC) and the password (the same one that matches to the username).
