This tutorial will explain in detail how to install and create an FTP server behind a router. We will detail how to configure this with a 'Linksys BEFSR41' router and then install 'Guild FTPd Server', which is free and has a simple user interface.

Configuration of the TCP/IP protocol

To configure a static IP address on the FTP Server computer:

Go to the following location: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network > Local Area Network Properties

Click on the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and “Properties”

Enter the static IP address and the subnet mask.

Enter the IP address of the router, which by default will be 127.0.0.1.

Enter the DNS servers of your internet provider.

Note: You can find the router administration on the “status” page.
