Creating an ADSL connection with RASPPPoE

RASPPPoE is a peripheral driver that allows you to create and access an ADSL connection without using external applications. The integration of the driver directly into the heart of the system has a number of advantages. This tutorial will explain how to install and configure your ADSL connection under Windows 98SE/ME/2000 with the help of the free RASPPPoE program.

Creating an ADSL connection with RASPPPoE

Note 1: If you don’t know which protocol you currently use (PPTP, PPPoE or PPPoA) ask your internet provider and they will be able to help you. If your modem is USB then it will be PPPoA.

Note 2: No matter which protocol you currently use to connect to the internet (PPTP, PPPoE or PPPoA) it is possible to install the RASPPPoE program and connect to the internet with it.

If your ADSL connection uses the PPPoE protocol then you have one of two possibilities:

You can install the France Telecom connection kit that uses the NTS Ethernet 300 program.
Or
You can install the RASPPPoE program, which is recommended. (Don’t forget to uninstall the Netessimo program if it has been previously installed).

RASPPPoE is not a connection program like Ethernet 300, but is more like a driver that allows you to directly access your network without having to use external applications. The integration of the driver directly into the system provides you with a number of advantages:

  • The use of system memory is greatly reduced
  • The speed of the ADSL connection (at least 6 seconds)
  • Automatic connection
  • Direct connection sharing managed by Windows
  • Free driver

RASPPPoE functions under a number of platforms like Windows 95/98/ME/2000 and XP. The latest version is 0.98B and can be obtained here, with the creator’s website being located here.

I use this program myself and have had absolutely NO problems with it.
