This tutorial will explain in detail how to install and create an FTP server behind a router. We will detail how to configure the 'Netgear DG814' router and how to install 'Guild FTPd' server which is free, simple and efficient.

First time opening GuildFTPd:


An icon will appear on your desktop, you should double click on it.

At the startup you will see this:

Look at the top left: 0 users is normal as you have no accounts created, so no one can connect to you.

Click on the small System cross.

In the tree, you will see GROUP.

You will then have this window:

By right clicking on the Group, you can define a new member in the group.

You will see on the following screen capture that I have deleted the anonymous connection.

If you want to leave this so that your friends can connect without a password via the anonymous account then you can skip the next steps.

I personally prefer to secure the connection a bit more by giving usernames and passwords to people.
