Despite average sales figures and some teething problems, the Nexus One Smartphone meets the planned Android promotional strategy according to Peter Chou, CEO of HTC – the manufacturer of the handset.
The CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas provided Peter Chou, CEO at HTC, with the perfect opportunity to talk about the Nexus One Smartphone. After a difficult beginning and sales figures lower than those seen by competing products, the results of Google’s directly distributed phone seem to be mixed.
The CEO of HTC nevertheless believes that the Nexus One has achieved its aim of proving that the Taiwanese group is capable of providing innovative products in this field. The Google project was aimed at showing off all Android’s qualities on the Nexus One (the first in a range of "superphones"), and "from this point of view, I think that it is a success", states Peter Chou.
The Nexus One was the first Smartphone to come with Android 2.1 Eclair, while also drawing on functions like Google Maps Navigation and voice dictation for SMS and email messages.
A question of promotion
He didn’t wish to comment on sales estimations for the Nexus One though, instead preferring to explain that "taking into account the fact that Google didn’t use a traditional distribution method and that no advertising was made, the Nexus One comes through very well."
New about HTC has recently been rather active, with Apple filing charges against the company for patent violations, while they company has also launched the WiMAX HTC EVO 4G Smartphone which, once again, proves that the Taiwanese company is up to date with mobile technologies.
They will also be present at the launch of the Windows Phone 7 Series, through their privileged partner status with Microsoft in the same vein as that with Google. The company will launch Windows Phone 7 Series handsets before the end of the year, while also remaining active with the Windows Mobile 6.5 system.
