cups-insecure-filter?

I'm trying to get a Canon ip1600 printer working over USB on a new
Mint 11 laptop install.

I've followed the info as kindly offered here by Norman but currently
the printer icon in the bottom panel shows 'cups-insecure-filter'.

http://www.driverlook.com/canon-pix...ux-ubuntu/

I downloaded the files and installed them in the order given and saw
no errors.

http://www.driverlook.com/install-c...er-ubuntu/

I got into CUPS server and went to as the ip1600 as per the walk
through but it wasn't listed so went for the ip2200 instead as
suggested. This may indicate the problem? When you print it does get
into the queue but it shows as 'Stopped'.

lsusb shows:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 04a9:10a0 Canon, Inc. PIXMA iP1600 Printer

and:

alan@Qosmio ~ $ lpstat -p -d
printer Canon_iP1600 is idle. enabled since Wed 07 Dec 2011 19:43:53
GMT
printer Print_to_PDF is idle. enabled since Thu 16 Aug 2007 23:15:50
BST
system default destination: Canon_iP1600

I'm having to do all this remotely and only for a short window in the
evenings so it's not that easy to faultfind.

Any thoughts re what it could be please?

Cheers, T i m

p.s. To the nutjobs ... just remember this is yet another Linux
install I've brought into the world and the guy is very happy with it.
It would just be so much nicer if he could print from it and it would
stay on for longer that 5 mins when on battery power (when it runs for
~4 hours on battery on XP).

If you can access CUPS (which I think you can) then try going to
Administration ( http://localhost:631/printers/ ) and click on the
printer (Queue Name). You will be presented with a screen with all the
basic info for the printer and two drop down menus (Maintenance and
Administration). Under Maintenance if you see a 'Resume Printer' then
select that and see if it prints what (something from) is in the queue.
This will be readily evident if any of the jobs listed below show the
the driver has 'failed'. You can create a shortcut (on the desktop) to
this screen by creating a launcher and setting the command to:

firefox http://localhost:631/printers/Officejet-6300-series

...as an example. Substitute your favorite browser for firefox.

I have the above printer myself (not wireless, but shared USB) that
has started acting up by not wanting to print more than a page or two at
a time. This is a hand-me-down from a Windows user that said it was
giver her fits as well. So I assume a hardware problem and am glad to
have gotten a year or so use out of it. Will be replacing it with
another HP (wireless this time) printer with individual inks.
