Delete traces of unassociated file extensions

Some file formats are specific to certain programs. As you install and remove different programs, you can find that traces are left in the Windows registry which is no longer associated to any program installed on the computer.

To eleiminate these traces, we will use a utility called RegCleaner. After having installed it, run and configure it by following this previous tip, by clicking on the “File Types” tab. Next, start a search by clicking on the “Search” button at the top, or use the [CTRL + F] key combination. When requested, put “N/A” in and start the search.

The entries that match N/A will then be shown to you. You simply need to check the box to select all of these. Then simply press the “Delete Selections” button at the bottom right to finish the job.
