The Distributed
Management Task Force, Inc. (DMTF®), the organization bringing the
IT industry together to collaborate on systems management standards
development, validation, promotion and adoption, today announced that
more than 50 products conforming to its Desktop
and mobile Architecture for System Hardware (DASH) 1.0 standard have
been listed in the DMTF
Certification Registry. This achievement marks a significant
accomplishment for the organization’s DASH
1.0 conformance program and a major milestone on the path to
enabling interoperable IT management solutions in the desktop and mobile
space.
“We are very pleased to see desktop and mobile system vendors who have
adopted the DASH 1.0 standard participate in the DASH 1.0 conformance
program,” said Perry Vincent, chair of the DMTF’s System
Management Forum (SMF), which oversees the DASH conformance program.
“The program is an excellent way to test and publicly register the
conformance of products available in the marketplace today.”
DASH delivers standards-based web services management for desktop and
mobile client systems by leveraging the DMTF Web
Services for Management (WS-MAN) specification. The DASH 1.0
conformance program was made available to the industry in March 2011, to
provide companies implementing the standard with a resource for
validating their products. This provides a mechanism for improving
interoperability among solutions for secure out-of-band and remote
management of desktop and mobile systems.
DMTF conformance programs provide test suites to vendors, enabling them
to test their solutions for conformance to DMTF specifications. Vendors
then submit their test results to DMTF for validation and certification.
Products with validated test results are eligible to list their products
in the DMTF
Certification Registry. This provides IT customers and vendors with
increased confidence that products listed in the registry are manageable
as defined by DMTF standards.
Furthering its efforts to enable management interoperability, DMTF is
offering a special, free testing opportunity for DASH products at the
upcoming Management
Developers Conference (MDC) on November 14 in San Mateo, Calif.
Vendors interested in testing their products at the event should contact
the SMF Program Manager at smf_pm@dmtf.org
by October 31, 2011.
“As part of our mission to enable interoperable IT management solutions
across the globe, we are deeply committed to helping vendors develop and
test standards-based products,” said Tom Butler, DMTF Vice President of
Interoperability. “We strongly encourage vendors with DASH standard
implementations to attend our test event at MDC and take advantage of
the opportunity to check their products’ conformance at no cost.”

Industry Support for DASH Conformance Program
“As an original contributor to the DASH conformance test suite and the
DASH standard itself, AMD is pleased to celebrate this milestone for the
DASH conformance program,” said Valerie Kane, senior product manager for
commercial client, AMD. “Client PCs that support DASH can help IT
customers reduce the cost and complexity of managing their IT systems,
while retaining the flexibility to choose the mix of platforms to best
meets their individual business needs.”
“As one of the founding members and ongoing supporters of the DASH
initiative, Broadcom congratulates DMTF on achieving this key
milestone,” said Vinod Lakhani, senior director and general manager of
high-speed controller products, Infrastructure and Networking Group,
Broadcom Corporation. “Broadcom remains a proud supporter of this
program and is committed to providing and using open-standard solutions
for testing and conformance throughout the industry.”
“Our collaboration with DMTF, the number of Dell laptops, desktops and
workstations among compliant systems and the strides the DASH 1.0
conformance program has achieved mean our customers can realize a more
seamless, simplified management experience,” said Kirk Schell, executive
director and general manager of Dell’s Business Client Product Group.
“This reinforces our commitment to end-user computing and helping our
customers increase efficiency, lower cost and drive innovation with
open, capable and affordable client management solutions that enable
them to do more than ever before.”
“As a leader in industry standards for PC manageability for over two
decades and a founding member of DMTF, we are pleased to see growth in
the number of systems passing the DASH 1.0 conformance program and that
a large number include Second Generation Intel® Core™ vPro™ processors,”
said Dan Russell, director, Business Client and Platform Solutions
Marketing, Intel Corporation. “Conformance is important, and this
program has helped to establish standards-based compliance testing for
desktop and mobile products.”
