Does anyone have anything against OSS?

Seems that some in COLA think there are people against their "cause"... and
perhaps even against them. But is anyone? Not Mac users - OS X and many of
the technologies that come with it are OSS or have an OSS back end. Not
most Windows users - many use VLC or Firefox or other OSS. How about
companies? Apple - no, if they were against OSS they would not use so much
of it. Google - no, they have Android and reportedly make heavy use of it
in their offices and server rooms. Dell and HP - no, they care about
hardware. Microsoft - no... Linux is just another competitor... no more
hated than a company that is competing with them. And MS has clearly done
work to get Windows to work well with, say, PHP. And MS has contributed
drivers and other software to the OSS movement. And Orchard and other
projects.

Open source is not a product... it is a method. While some may prefer other
methods and some might even be opposed to using open source methods, is
there anyone who is against others doing so? Sure, there are some dumb
quotes from people who should know better about OSS being anti-capitalist or
some such nonsense... but overall? No... the us vs. them view of *some* of
the COLA "advocates" makes no sense.

Nobody I know is against OSS or Linux or freedom. Most of us believe the
patent/copyright system is in need of some kind of overhaul and I
suspect most of us feel that the distribution of music/video both
mechanically and in print needs to have some type of fair controls put
in place.

I use all of those applications under Windows and they are fine
applications.
OpenOffice and Gimp are fine applications as well.
So is Audacity, RoseGarden and Ardour.

None of them however even come close in quality and features to their
commercial counterparts. But many people don't need the extra features
so they are fine, considering the cost.

Android is making some excellent gains in the phone market.

As for Dell, Microsoft, Apple and so forth they are in business to make
money plain and simple. If that means buying up other companies, using
their technology and closing the company, then that's business.

They all have had their history of dirty tricks, just like IBM, GE and
now the new kid on the dirty tricks block, Google.

The problem with COLA Linux "advocates" is that it attracts the bottom
of the barrel.

Paranoid screwballs like [Homer] who will never be satisfied until
everything on earth is open and free. I dunno, maybe in a perfect
society he has the right idea but in the world as we know it today it's
a death sentence for most businesses because there will always be
leaches, like IBM, attached to the backs of the honest programmers who
are giving their work away.

IOW either everyone plays or the game doesn't work.

Then you have freedom fighters like Shitzowitz who just likes to attack
and spread half truths in order to satisfy his self centered
narcissistic tendencies.

Again, if he were really interested in the cause, he would be doing it
anonymously like Pamela of Groklaw instead of splattering his name all
over the place.

The big problem with COLA is hypocrites who LIE for LIEnux.
Chris Ahlstrom, HPT, Poaster, Roy Culley, goober and then the ultimate
duo 7 and Rex who appear to just make stuff up as they ramble along.

It's bizarre.

And what's even more bizarre is people who support them.
People like Chris Ahlstrom.

The crux of the issue isn't Linux, it;s the radical Linux community
which unfortunately, at least in COLA does nothing to edify Linux but
instead makes honest hard working Linux advocates look like idiots.

As Ubuntu nappy gets prepped for release get ready for the denial to
begin.
When the Ubuntu forums are overloaded with complaints, idiots like
Marti, Poaster and HPT will claim "works for me" even in cases where
bugs are documented and could not possibly work.

Wait, watch and see.
