The US government has taken control of 130 web sites which were involved in the trade of counterfeit goods.

In-Our-Sites-saisie-usaOperation "In Our Sites" continues in the United States, with the US Government chasing web sites that deal with counterfeit goods or the supply of illegal files made available for download.

TorrentFreak published a list of 130 new domain name seizures. Visiting these sites now displays a message that the American authorities have taken control of the domain (see picture).

These seizures have been timed to coincide with Cyber Monday in the United States, with this being the Monday following Thanksgiving when large discounts are offered on online shopping sites.

The seized domain names were all registered within the United States. According to TorrentFreak, the action seems to have essentially targeted sites linked with the sale of counterfeit goods, although sites like autocd.com which has also been targeted seem to be related to the sale of pirate software.

Operation "In Our Sites" has in the past had the objective of targeting torrent link and illegal streaming sites. Some registered with .com and .org extensions have managed to maintain their online presence by changing their extension.
