Mobile games, June 2008

Summer is here but this doesn’t mean that mobile phone game makers are on holidays. Once again, car racing games feature in June, thanks to franchises taken from consoles or films. But the casual games are still present, as well as puzzle games.

In this prosperous summer time, we are interested in looking at the latest releases from Glu Mobile, a company founded in 2001, withtheir recent releases being shared between franchise adaptations and casual games (occasional games).

It is often that the editor produces games at the same time as other console consoles, with this being an adaptationos Race Driver: GRID in May, allowing you to feel the same sensations on different tracks with well worked décor.

You find different vehicles and a career mode that allows you to progress while trying to stay on the tracks as best you can while being the fastest of the six cars in the race. It is possible to manage your team, getting them well placed to earn points and money.

But Glu Mobile has also presented another mobile adaptation, corresponding to another franchise – Speed Racer, which this time was released at about the same time as the Warner film and console adaptations.

Glu Mobile has respected the atmosphere of this super colored film and its spectacular tracks. In this car race that is a little special, you will need to be faster then the other four vehicles to make it to the next track, all the way to the Grand Prix.

Skids, impressive acceleration and the possibility of driving at the front or back of the pack are all here, along with some jumps being on the menu. The controls are quite simple for everyone, with any slip ups by the other drivers being a perfect opportunity to take the advantage.

But racing cars makes you rather hungry after a while. Which is perhaps why Glu Mobile has added a Cooking game called Cooking Star, Learn to cook, which puts the player in the shoes of a chef who wants to earn lots of stars and become well known.

But to do this, you will need to prepare the ordered meals correctly as quickly as possible, with the pressure always on with the clock. Cooking Star calls on a series of mini-games that simulate the preparation of a wide range of meals, from a simple hamburger to the chef’s soup.

The better that the meals are prepared, then the happier the clients will be. On the other hand, if you make a mess of the meal then you will be greeted with frowns and unhappy customers.

Finally, it’s Brain Genius 2 which is the last release from Glu Mobile. In this brain training game, exercises will test your capabilities in different fields: attention, short term memory, observation, etc.

Your progress can be saved daily, allowing you to see your progress, with new exercises being unblocked over time, until the bonus exercises including Sudoku. It is possible to save numerous profiles so that you can compare your results with your friends and attack numerous difficulty levels.

An amusing detail is that you can use the mobile phones camera to customize your profile with your portrait. 4 practice zones await the player, with coaching tips to improve your mental capabilities.

Finally, Glu Mobile has taken the time in June to announce their partnership with SEGA Europe, allowing them to prepare for the Beijing 2008, a mobile adaptation based on the Beijing Olympics which take place in August.

In the same spirit and thanks to this same partnership, the editor is also offering Sonic at the Olympic Games, with a return of the famous mascot from the Japanese group. Now you have everything on your telephone to get you into the Olympic spirit.
