“dotINFO” Summer Spotting Contest launches today

Afilias Limited, the operator of the .INFO top level domain, today announced the start of the Summer 2012 .INFO Spotting Contest.

To help people find information using the .INFO domain when online, site owners are advertising their sites in print, on billboards, on web banners, even on t-shirts. And whenever you see a .INFO site being advertised, you can snap a photo of it and have a chance to win a Lytro™ camera, one of the hottest new digital gadgets on the market.

“The .INFO domain has been available for more than a decade. And with almost eight million domains registered, .INFO is the most intuitive place on the Web to put your information. The Summer Spotting Contest is designed to highlight the use of .INFO domains around the world and the many creative ways that .INFO site owners are promoting themselves,” said Roland LaPlante, CMO, Afilias.

All entries to the .INFO Spotting Contest should be submitted by posting the photo to the .INFO Facebook fan page located at http://www.facebook.com/dotINFO or by e-mailing the photo to infospot@afilias.info; both entry paths are accessible via http://info.info/spotting.

Contest winners will be selected by Afilias based on the best capture of a .INFO domain used in advertising. Each entry will be judged on how effectively it shows the use of .INFO in a marketing message, the legibility and clarity of the photograph, and how well it captures the spirit of the advertisement.

“Summer is a great time to see new places—and new sites! When you’re traveling, you may see .INFO domains in advertising that’s cool and unique. Always have your smartphone or camera ready to grab a shot of that .INFO ad and upload it to Facebook. And by the end of summer, you may have a new gadget to start grabbing even more photos in the autumn,” LaPlante added.
