DTS,
Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio, has further
penetrated the digital broadcasting market with specification in three
worldwide broadcasting standards, implemented in the U.S. and Europe.
DTS audio is now included in the Advanced Television Systems Committee’s
(ATSC) updated guidelines for standardized broadcast digital video
transmission, the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions’
(ATIS) revised standards for IPTV media formats and protocols and
European Digital
Video Broadcasting (DVB) Audio Toolbox, making it possible for U.S.
and European broadcasters to now take advantage of DTS’ advanced and
highly efficient audio delivery solutions.
“Digital broadcasting continues to put consumers in the driver’s seat
with expanding options to personalize their viewing experiences;
allowing them to watch what they want, when they want,” stated Brian
Towne, executive vice president and chief operating officer at DTS, Inc.
“With this increased flexibility, viewers demand premium-quality audio
to enrich their overall entertainment experience. The integration of DTS
audio into evolving broadcast standards demonstrates the industry’s
response to consumers’ demands for high quality content and acknowledges
the unparalleled entertainment experience afforded by our advanced audio
solutions.”
The new ATSC and ATIS guidelines provide consumers with more control
when viewing television programming on fixed-location and mobile
devices. Through ATSC’s new standard, designated as A/103, broadcasters
can transmit file-based content with rich DTS audio in non-real-time
(NRT), making it readily available at any time via streaming delivery or
download. As such, ATSC’s NRT standard reaches beyond traditional
programming—such as entertainment, news and sports—to video-on-demand,
emergency alerts, breaking news and even digital signage, making it a
key element in the emerging ATSC 2.0 broadcast services standard. ATIS
defines guidelines for media formats and protocols in the delivery of
IPTV services, which includes pay-per-view programming.
The DVB Audio Toolbox enables IPTV and broadcast operators to deliver a
rich, scalable audio experience with the added entertainment value of
DTS audio. The inclusion of DTS high definition audio solutions expands
DTS' presence within the DVB specification.
