Application Security, Inc. (AppSecInc), the leading provider of database
security solutions for the enterprise, today announced that the film ‘Jumping
and Screaming’ directed by Brian D. Katz has been selected as the
grand prize winner of the fourth annual Database
Security Video Smackdown.
The film, ‘Jumping and Screaming’ is an animated exclamation by
two would-be businessmen who share what are seemingly ludicrous details
of their lackadaisical approach to securing their company’s sensitive
data. The proclamations include rants such as, “Our database user
administrator name is still set to admin!” and the contest judges’
favorite, “My password is one, two, three….FOUR!”
The video won the $2000 grand prize for its overall originality,
creativity, humor and for demonstrating an understanding of the
self-imposed challenges that organizations face when it comes to
securing sensitive data.
“In the fourth year of our contest, we were impressed to see how well
our contestants were able to show how data security issues have become
mainstream concerns,” said Thom VanHorn, Vice President of Global
Marketing, AppSecInc. “While some may view these video submissions as
inane exaggerations, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Through
the creativity of our contestants, we hope to continue shedding light on
the very serious challenges that organizations today face in securing
sensitive data and remind them that AppSecInc is available to help them
overcome these obstacles.”
The contest’s other two finalists were ‘Database Security: You Really
Need It Baby’ by Josh Anderson and ‘Elite: The Beginning’ by
George Valinho. Both receive the runner-up consolation prize of $500.
Anderson stars in his own film and the exuberant dance skills he put on
display left the judges feeling confident enough to strut their stuff
around the AppSecInc office. Valinho’s submission tells a more
cautionary tale and brings the viewer into an ominous world of data
breaches. Valinho illustrates the importance of database security
through the eyes of the attacker where he even cleverly includes the now
famed Anonymous image displayed as wall art in the background of the
supposed villain’s office.
All entries can be viewed on the Database
Security Video Smackdown Web site, as well as the Facebook
page, the Video Smackdown YouTube
Channel and the Application Security, Inc. Web
site.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the 5th annual contest early next
year.
