Emerson Process Management has completed installation and commissioning
of digital automation technology for leading pharmaceutical company
Jubilant Life Sciences’ plants in Bharuch, Gujarat. Emerson’s solution
will help Jubilant Life Sciences increase the plants’ manufacturing
productivity, improve efficiency, and significantly reduce operating
costs.
Jubilant’s three plants form part of the Jubilant SEZ (Special Economic
Zone) which was recently inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri
Narendra Modi. The SEZ is spread over 250 acres in Vilayat Industrial
Estate and caters specifically to the pharmaceutical and chemicals
industry.
“We are setting up world-class manufacturing facilities,” said Mr. Mukul
Dixit, Senior Vice President, Projects at Jubilant Life Sciences.
“Emerson’s team brought the process automation expertise we needed to
meet global standards, and their solutions have equipped us to
significantly improve the automation level and enhance our plant
efficiency.”
Jubliant’s large-capacity plants in the SEZ are equipped with Emerson’s
technologies and manufacture 3-cyanopyridine and vitamin B3.
Emerson provided its PlantWeb™ digital plant architecture to automate
the three manufacturing facilities, including DeltaV™ digital automation
systems, AMS Suite predictive maintenance software, and Rosemount®
field instrumentation among its other offerings.
The flexibility and ease of use of the DeltaV system meets the complex
production needs of Jubilant, making it ideal for the company’s critical
pharmaceutical processes. The three DeltaV systems communicate with
numerous field devices using FOUNDATION Fieldbus technology.
Emerson’s AMS Suite software was used during installation of measurement
and control devices to help reduce costs and improve device startup
efficiency. Jubilant Life Sciences will use the software’s predictive
maintenance capabilities on an ongoing basis to further increase the
availability and performance of the plant.
According to Mr. Amit Paithankar, Managing Director, Emerson Process
Management, India, “Emerson’s DeltaV system has advanced batch
capabilities that help enable agile manufacturing to meet real-time
demands. We have proven strengths in the life-sciences sector and we
have successfully executed more than 12 automation projects for
Jubilant’s process units in Gajraula, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda, Gujarat and
Nira, Maharashtra.”
The DeltaV digital automation system helps harness today’s predictive
technologies in an easy way to connect people, processes, and
production. The DeltaV system is a preferred solution for refineries and
petrochemical plants globally. This technology was also voted best in
batch process automation for the 10th straight year by readers of Control
magazine in their annual Readers’ Choice Awards in 2012.
Fifteen out of the top 20 life science companies in India use
technologies provided by Emerson Process Management. Emerson has
commissioned more than 275 DeltaV system projects in India over the past
decade across multiple industry segments such as chemicals,
petrochemicals, oil and gas, refinery, metals, and life sciences.
